Course Overview
- The course will be taught at an intermediate level; participants are expected to have some understanding of statistics and the theory of mixed models.
- The course format will consist of two sets of lecture + exercise in the morning and two in the afternoon. Each set will be a 30-minute lecture and 60-minute exercise. You may bring your own data to work on.
- Evoltree students are encouraged to apply. Evoltree supports students enrolled at institutions that are partners in the Evoltree network (23 institutions throughout Europe).
- Students taking this course will be able to demonstrate their increased knowledge through testing, and subsequently receive a certificate that they may wish to use for academic credit at their university.
- The course fee is $1,300.00 US dollars if registration is made before 1 April 2012 (Early Fee).
The course fee will increase to $1,500.00 US dollars
beginning on 1 April 2012 (Late Fee). The precise fee will be determined by prevailing currency exchange rate at time of payment transaction. The fee covers all course materials, lunches and two socials (sightseeing and dinner) in downtown Prague (Tuesday and Thursday). Additional dinners will be paid by the participants (provided by the University at a reasonable price, pricing equivalent to our employees). The course fee does not include hotel lodging.
- Accomodations are available in student dormitories at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. The cost is 20 euro/night, no breakfast provided. Or at Hotel Galaxie priced at 65 euro/night, breakfast provided and located near the University. Students accepted in the course will be provided lodging instructions.
Software Applications to be Used
- The exercises will demonstrate use of ASReml, SAS, R, PLINK, and GS3 for data analysis.
- Knowledge of PLINK and GS3 is not required, but some familiarity with ASReml and R syntax will be expected.
- PLINK, GS3, and R are open-source software packages; a free academic license for the Windows version of ASReml is available upon request to VSN International.
